Vietnams Public Holidays For 2008

Xmass Tree 3

Vietnam, like the rest of the world, has many public holidays through out the year. In recent years many Vietnamese have seen their incomes increase allowing them to do things they couldn´t only a few years back!

As such, the domestic tourism industry has grown significantly over the years (as has the International market!). So when traveling, you should keep in mind public holidays!

Whilst most will have little impact on your travels, others may. Holidays such as National Day, May Day and Tet (Lunar New Year) are now long weekends meaning many locals travel as well.

So check out the list below and if your traveling in Vietnam over a holiday period, it may pay to pre-book your hotel, plane ticket or your train trip!

2008 Dates Public Holiday

  • Wednesday, 6 February 2008 - Tet Eve (Vietnamese Lunar New Years Eve)
  • Thursday, 7 February 2008 - Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Years Day)
  • Friday, 8 February 2008 - Tet (Second day of Tet holiday)
  • Saturday, 9 February 2008 - Tet (Third day of Tet holiday)
  • Tuesday, 15 April 2008 - Hung Kings Commemorations
  • Wednesday, 30 April 2008 - Reunification Day (or Liberation Day)
  • Thursday, 1 May 2007 - International Labour Day
  • Tuesday, 2 September 2008 - National Day

Christmas and New Year are now celebrated in Vietnam, however it should have little impact on your travels!

Note - When booking a hotel on a public holiday, around the end of the year or over the Tet holidays please ensure that bookings are made well in advance as many hotels are frequently fully booked during these periods. Hotels during this period also generally charge their premium rack rates.
