Time For Mardi Gras

New Orleans´ party season is almost upon us and soon people will be enjoying the party life that the city offers during Mardi Gras time. There are some great Mardi Gras decorations that you can take with you to add to the fun. A bright costume in the typical Mardi Gras colors of purple, green and gold is great fun to put together. You could go as a court jester or a Viking or a clown. If you prefer to stay in your regular clothing while enjoying the festivities, why not add a mask. The Venetian carnival masks are very popular or you could just wear a jolly jester mask that is adorned with bells and satin ribbons. You can find stunning gold paper Mache masks with feathers shooting from the top that really make a statement. Many Mardi Gras masks have a crown at the top while others have long beaks.

Another decoration that you could take along is a hat. You could wear a six-pointed jester hat, a patchwork hat or a simple top hat; all in colors. You could even just wear a baseball style hat embossed with the words Mardi Gras. If you are taking the kids along they could wear a sequined head band or a plush royal crown. If you want to join in the fun along the parade route, take along some green, gold and purple doubloons (coins) to throw at other party goers. Mardi Gras beads are great for wearing and passing out to those near you.

A few things to remember while you are planning your trip and gathering your decorations are to plan ahead. Book your hotel reservations early and plan your transportation once you arrive. Finding a taxi cab could be difficult. It is a good idea to get a map of the city and plan your route before your arrival. And remember to be alert for parking tickets during Mardi Gras. Never double park or park in driveways or in front of water hydrants or within fifteen feet of a curb corner. Plan to get to the parades early if you want a good spot. You are allowed to consume beer on the streets as long as it is in a can or a cup; the police do not permit glass and they do enforce the drinking age. When decorations are being thrown from the floats during the parades (like the beads, doubloons, cups or stuffed animals), be very careful about picking them up off the ground. Make sure the next float is not close (or others are not rushing to claim them) or you could get your fingers run over or stomped on. It is also a good idea to always bring along wet wipes or something similar as your hands will get very dirty.

If you are planning a party in lieu of going to New Orleans, Mardi Gras decorations will add the touch you are looking for. It will be fun to pass out colorful beads or masks to all your guests. Or hang them from various places around the space designated for your party. You can find many Mardi Gras decorations by shopping online. Look for items that come in the traditional green, gold and purple that you see at every Mardi Gras celebration.
