La Vida Cubana - Holidays in 2012 / 2013
La Vida Cubana

In reflection of the conglomeration of the two cultures throughout Cuba´s past, Cuban music fuses two distinct sounds to create its own unique genre; a genre which is possibly the most popular form of world music. It´s as though the country has its own beat, its own rhythm. The constant music played on the streets will give your holiday its own soundtrack, so to speak, and the beautiful sounds you hear will be a constant reminder to you of this unique and wondrous place. When in Cuba, the local´s friendly nature and passion for life, is enough to awaken your spirit and give you a new perspective on life.
Cuban family life is very different to here in Europe. Most Cubans share a small house which they share with their extended families, sometimes creating overcrowding and poor living conditions. With a society based on the political ethos of social equality, all families are given rationed food by the Cuban government. They are issued with ration cards which determine how much food a particular family is entitled to each month. Every family will be given basic necessities such as bread, milk, beans, soap, but they are only given enough for them to maintain a basic standard of living, hence the rich-poor divide is minimised.
Having lived in the West where commercialism and materialism are thrown at us from all angles, one thing that really strikes you when arriving in Cuba is the absence of advertising. Product brands are not promoted on shiny posters, fashion magazines, or any other magazine for that matter, fill the shelves of shops and television adverts are non-existent. How refreshing it is to experience such an authentic culture where outside influence is cast aside. A great experience for us travelers, but what do the Cuban people think of their island´s remoteness from the rest of the world? A lot of them are well educated and yearn to travel the world; a dream that is not readily encouraged by the government, who have set various restrictions when it comes to Cuba self drive tours.
Explore the mountains of the Sierra Maestra and rolling tobacco fields. Try a Baracoa coast and jungle drive to Cuba´s coral beaches. We´ll help you build your very own Cuba adventure.
